Coolmoon Coolmoon

This quilt is reminiscent of an M.C. Escher optical illusion. When I learned about the possibility of weaving fabric, I decided to try to create an optical illusion while I was weaving. I used these two colors, mainly because aqua blue is my favorite color, but also because I wanted the piece to be as striking as possible. The piece is stipple quilted, with some silver couching around the outside and several random beads hand sewn on.

jpg Outerspace Outerspace

The reflections visible in the little mirror like beads on this quilt help it to look like something from outer space. This was a continued experiment in the weaving technique.

jpg Heatwave Heat Wave

I made this quilt in July of 2001 for the Sulky Thread Contest. It was entered in the Amateur Wall Hanging Division, and while it did not win anything, it did travel with the Sulky exhibit for 1 year.

Heatwave consists of 3 different design layers. The first layer is the actual background quilt with leaves quilted on it. The second layer is made up completely of thread and includes the tree and background design. The third layer consistes of the colorful appliqué leaves. This piece is reminiscent of late summer/early fall, when the leaves begin to change colors and we get that final Indian Summer Heatwave. Nature has so many colors; I was looking for a way to show them.

Jinny Beyer Block of the Month Quilt - When I first saw this quilt pattern I fell in love with it. To this day, it is my favorite full size quilt. The Mariner's Compass designs had me pulling my hair out while I was making it, but in the end, it always leaves me breathless when I look at it.

Motorcycle Motorcycle

This quilt was made for a friend who loves and owns motorcycles. The quality of this picture is not good enough to see, but the bike is actually made with a shiny blue fabric from a shirt that I bought from my coworker, Carin. I frequently teased Carin that when she was done with the shirt, I would buy it from her and use it in a quilt. As you can see, she was done with the shirt and I did use it in a quilt!

Manta Ray Manta Ray

My favorite creature is the sting ray or manta ray. This was a fun little piece I made after a trip to my Dad's house in Florida. Both manta rays are little thread painted appliqué patches and the beads are sewn in such a way that they stand off the quilt to mimic seaweed.

Complimentary COlors Complimentary Colors

A study in complementary colors (orange and blue) more than anything else. Although I was also trying out the weaving technique.

Festival Festival

This piece was made on the heels of my first Quilt Surface Design Symposium experience and I was trying to use different textures and bright colors as an experiment, in an effort to work outside the box. It includes a colorful shoelace, ribbons and dyed guaze. When Betsy saw it, she loved it, so I gave it to her as a gift.

The flying geese pattern that makes up the focal point of this quilt along with the colors used in conjunction with the background made me think of a shooting star.

Blue Stars Galactic Stars

This quilt was made as a birthday present for a friend. The blue and purple colors of this quilt make it one of my favorites. This was the first quilt that I made solely with paper piecing.

Wedding Ring Wedding Ring

I gave this quilt to my cousin Peter and his wife Michelle on their wedding day - October 6, 2001. The wedding ring pattern symbolizes the exchanging of their vows and rings.

Flannel Throw Flannel Throw

This quilt was made with a very loose weave, .99¢ a yard amish flannel. All of the seams are on the outside and cut in such a way that they unravel when washed and dried. As a word of warning - you may want to wash and dry this kind of quilt at the laundrymat since it makes a really huge mess!

Autumn's Eve Autumn's Eve

The beautiful piece of fabric in the background inspired this piece. I decided to contrast the beauty of the back fabric with the orange of the pumpkins.
